Independence of the Seas

Independence of the Seas is a Freedom-class cruise ship operated by Royal Caribbean International, launched in May 2008 from Aker Yards in Turku, Finland. At 154,407 gross tons and 1,112 feet long, she was among the largest cruise ships in the world at her debut and accommodates 4,375 guests at maximum occupancy. Independence features the signature Freedom-class amenities including a FlowRider surf simulator, a rock climbing wall, a full-size boxing ring, and the H2O Zone water park. The ship underwent a major Royal Amplification refurbishment in 2018, adding a reimagined pool deck, new waterslides including the Perfect Storm trio of slides, a revamped Suite Lounge, and modernized staterooms with USB outlets and new furnishings. Dining options were expanded to include popular fleet favorites like Izumi Japanese cuisine and Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade. The Royal Promenade, a four-deck-high interior boulevard, serves as the ship's social hub with shops, bars, and regular parades. Independence of the Seas has sailed from various homeports including Southampton, Fort Lauderdale, and Galveston, offering Caribbean, European, and transatlantic itineraries throughout the year.
