Port of Greenock

Ships dock alongside at Ocean Terminal in Greenock, and the port's own data says ship tenders are not allowed. Discover Inverclyde says you disembark directly onto the pier. The terminal address is Greenock Ocean Terminal, Custom House Way, Greenock, PA15 1EG.

Berth facts: the port's homepage gives a 200 m cruise berth with a depth of 10 m that takes ships up to 340 m. Its port data table lists a maximum length of 350 m, a width of 39 m and a draught of 9 m.

Getting to Glasgow by train

Discover Inverclyde puts Greenock Central station a 10 minute walk from where your ship docks. The port says both Greenock Central and Greenock West are within walking distance. Glasgow is 26 miles away. Inverclyde's tourism site lists 4 trains per hour to Glasgow, Monday to Saturday, and a journey of approximately 35 minutes. Trains from Greenock Central terminate at Glasgow Central. You can buy tickets online, at the station or on the train.

McGill's buses to Glasgow and the coast

The port provides no shuttle. McGill's services 901 and 906 run direct to Glasgow city centre, to Buchanan Street Bus Station. Services 901, 906 and 547 also serve coastal towns and villages. Local buses operate along the waterfront.

The walk into Greenock

The port's transport page puts the town centre a 3 minute walk from the terminal, and its guest services page says less than five minutes. The Inverclyde Tourist Board operates inside the cruise marquee as passengers disembark. A currency exchange service is in the marquee as well, and within 0.5 mile there are banks, ATMs and more exchange services. The local currency is the pound sterling.

Scott's Restaurant, on the upper level of the terminal, has a view of ship arrivals and departures.

Taxis outside the terminal

Taxis wait outside the terminal for guests who prefer not to walk. The Marquee is the designated meeting point for all taxis arranged through the ship or the Port Agent. More taxis stand at the Main Terminal Building. The port's information page puts the journey from Glasgow at approximately 40 minutes, depending on traffic.

Checking in at the Cruise Marquee

Passengers check in and board through the cruise marquee, and luggage is checked in there before boarding. A valid passport is required when you embark at Greenock. The port provides baggage handling for both embarkation and disembarkation. The port provides no passenger assistance, and the cruise line manages it.

Glasgow Airport and turnaround days

The port data lists Greenock as a turnaround port. Glasgow Airport is 17 miles away, and the port's information page gives approximately 30 minutes by road. The port's transport page, which is undated, gives a longer figure for a taxi or private transfer: around 45 to 60 minutes, with fares typically from £55 to £75 depending on traffic and vehicle type. Plan on the longer figure.

For public transport, the same page describes the 500 Airport Express to Glasgow Central, ScotRail to Greenock Central and then a short taxi. It puts the total at 90 to 120 minutes and calls it best suited to travellers with light luggage. Discover Inverclyde says there are no direct buses from the airport to Greenock, only a bus connection to Paisley Gilmour Street station for the trains.

Parking and hotels

There is no onsite parking within the port. The port provides a parking area with 162 bays, including 4 disabled bays and 2 EV charging points. Other parking is nearby on Custom House Way and at the Waterfront Retail Park. The port publishes no hotel list and says a variety of hotels are available nearby.

Greenock call counts and terminal hours

The port's 2025 season brought 145,166 passengers across 82 ship calls. WakeRadar's AIS tracking logged 15 Greenock calls over the date range shown above, about 1.2 a week. Princess Cruises made the most calls. The port operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the Wyllieum gallery in the terminal opens 10am to 5pm on ship days, so set your all-aboard time against those hours.
