Carnival Cruise Line's overhauled Carnival Rewards program goes live Tuesday, September 1, 2026, replacing the longtime VIFP loyalty scheme. The most significant shift: status is now earned through spending rather than lifetime days sailed. Passengers must opt in by Monday, August 31, or their accumulated loyalty and sailing days will not transfer to the new system.
Under the new structure, guests earn "stars" based on eligible Carnival purchases, with status expiring every two years and requiring re-earning. Diamond-level members from the old VIFP program retain lifetime status as a grandfathered exception. All other passengers will have their August 31 VIFP status locked in through December 2028, then updated based on what they've earned during that first earning period. Platinum members get a boost: they'll automatically receive 10,000 stars to start the next cycle as Gold rather than at the lowest Red tier.
Rewards differ by tier. All guests receive one complimentary 1.5-liter water bottle. Gold members get one free beverage on cruises five days or longer; Platinum guests receive two complimentary beverages, limited wash-and-fold laundry, and priority access to online check-in and dining reservations. Diamond members keep additional laundry services, guaranteed main dining times, retail concierge, and a Captain's invitation to a special event. All Platinum and Diamond passengers earn a ship-specific collectible pin per sailing, a beloved carryover from the VIFP program.
Notable cuts include the elimination of Platinum and Diamond onboard parties, loyalty gifts, welcome treats, and complimentary stateroom upgrades. Passengers also earn points on Carnival purchases and through the Carnival Rewards Mastercard, redeemable for onboard perks or applied toward cruise fares and deposits at booking.
Carnival delayed the program's original June 2026 launch to September to refine details following controversy over the move away from lifetime accrual. Website glitches were reported in the days before rollout. Passengers who valued earning recognition for total sailing history should review their status before the August 31 deadline.
