John Heald: Carnival Not Removing Elegant Nights

Carnival Cruise Line will not eliminate elegant nights from its onboard programming, the cruise line's brand ambassador John Heald confirmed on social media this week. The announcement addresses rumors circulating on cruise forums about potential changes to the line's dining and dress-code traditions.

On most Carnival ships, elegant nights remain part of the standard itinerary. However, some shorter cruises will feature a "white night" instead, where guests are encouraged to wear white and participate in the theme if they wish. The evening includes a White Hot Deck Party later that night. Passengers booked on these shorter sailings will receive notification by email before their trip.

Heald also clarified that Carnival will continue serving complimentary lobster in main dining rooms on cruises of six days or longer. The only exceptions are sailings to Alaska, Europe, and Australia, where sourcing constraints have created challenges. This update directly addresses speculation that the line planned to scale back or eliminate lobster service across the fleet.

The confirmation comes as Heald marked his 39th year with Carnival, having started as a bar waiter in the late 1980s. Carnival Vista held an onboard celebration where senior officers presented him with a commemorative plaque. Heald will next join Carnival President Christine Duffy for the line's inaugural President's Cruise in February 2027, a six-night sailing departing from PortMiami.
