Royal Caribbean has extended the Oasis of the Seas' stop in Halifax, Nova Scotia to a full day and evening, giving passengers significantly more time ashore after the ship was rerouted from Florida and the Bahamas due to severe Atlantic weather. The ship will now remain docked until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, instead of departing at 8 a.m., adding 10 extra hours for exploration.

The 5,602-passenger Oasis departed Cape Liberty, New Jersey on October 18 for what was originally a seven-night tropical itinerary visiting Port Canaveral, Perfect Day CocoCay, and Nassau. Last-minute forecasts of high winds and heavy swells forced a complete reroute to Halifax as the only port of call. Passengers learned of the change just the evening before departure, disappointing those expecting warm-weather ports and Caribbean swimming.

Royal Caribbean initially scheduled just a 14-hour overnight stay, arriving Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. and leaving Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. The cruise line has now confirmed it secured "additional flexibility" in the revised schedule. Halifax, home to Canada's Atlantic Fleet, offers shore excursions, waterfront dining, and historical sites. The ship returns to New Jersey on October 25 as originally planned, and Royal Caribbean has not adjusted passenger compensation for the routing change.

For guests sailing this cruise, the extended Halifax stop transforms what could have felt like a missed port into a genuine opportunity to experience the Maritime city. Passengers now have the full day Wednesday to book tours and activities rather than rushing back to the ship mid-morning.
