MSC Installs Dragon Sculpture Aboard World Asia

MSC Cruises has completed installation of a 12-meter dragon sculpture aboard the World Asia, the ship's newest flagship. The stainless-steel artwork will hover 10 meters above the Outdoor World Promenade, marking the centerpiece of the ship's Asia-inspired design when it launches this December.

The dragon is a technical achievement as much as an artistic one. Nearly 700 mirrors line its surface, paired with 400 meters of integrated strip lighting and over 3,000 LED points that will illuminate the sculpture after dark. The pearlescent white finish is designed to capture a sense of movement and reflection, creating the illusion of the dragon in flight above passengers on the promenade. MSC contracted Balich Wonder Studio, the design firm behind the installation, to create a visual landmark that would define the ship's identity.

The World Asia is the third ship in MSC's World Class series and is currently under construction at Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France. The ship will launch with seven-night Mediterranean cruises starting December 4, 2026, calling at Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Civitavecchia (Rome), Messina, and Valletta. Pricing and full cabin details have not yet been released, though early bookings are expected soon.

For cruise passengers, the dragon sculpture signals MSC's commitment to creating immersive onboard environments that go beyond standard cabin and dining facilities. The outdoor promenade sculpture doubles as a photo opportunity and a thematic anchor for the ship's cultural design. Travelers interested in the World Asia's debut season should monitor MSC's booking channels and travel agent sites, as December Mediterranean sailings typically fill quickly.
