MSC Cruises is launching Catalina Sugar Beach, a new private beach destination on Catalina Island near La Romana, Dominican Republic, opening in November 2026. The beach will anchor MSC Opera's weekly itineraries sailing from La Romana, giving passengers an exclusive port experience alongside traditional Caribbean stops.

The development, created with CTL Maritime and Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, offers white-sand beaches, two bars, an open-air buffet, and a water sports center stocked with rental equipment. Passengers can book private cabanas and daybeds for the day. Excursions range from catamaran cruises and snorkeling to trips to nearby Saona Island and the Cave of Wonders. A new nature trail with educational signage about native island trees adds a quieter alternative to water activities.

Starting in November, MSC Opera will sail seven-night Southern Caribbean itineraries from La Romana every week. Passengers can also combine two sailings into a 14-night voyage. The beach will welcome not only MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys guests but also visitors staying at the nearby Casa de Campo Resort.

Private beach clubs have become increasingly popular on Caribbean itineraries, allowing cruise lines to control the experience and extend onboard revenue opportunities. For passengers booked on MSC Opera, Catalina Sugar Beach means a full day of activities without tendering or navigating a traditional port town. The added facilities and dining options provide flexibility for different travel styles, whether passengers prefer active water sports or relaxing under a palapa with an ocean view.
