Disney Cruise Line is ordering three new ships for 2029 and 2030 that will be smaller than its recent mega-ships but still large enough to carry about 3,000 passengers each. A rendering shown at D23 in Anaheim suggests that the new vessels will maintain Disney's signature design language: black-and-gold hulls, twin red funnels, and what appears to be a three-deck wall of ocean-facing windows amidships. Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany will build the ships using hybrid battery systems and shore-power connections, aligning with industry-wide environmental standards.
For cruise passengers, this announcement signals that Disney is banking on the appeal of specialty itineraries and exclusive port access rather than simply building bigger.
