Carnival Breeze struck the corner of a pier while docking in Cozumel, Mexico on Monday morning, August 31, 2026, leaving visible scrapes and chipped paint on the ship's starboard hull. The 3,690-guest Dream-class vessel was maneuvering into its berth when the impact occurred at approximately 9 a.m. local time. Video posted on social media captured the moment of contact and the resulting damage well above the waterline. No injuries were reported, and guests onboard said they felt no impact from the incident.

The ship was docking alongside Carnival Jubilee in adjacent berths, a standard arrangement at busy ports. According to reports, Carnival Breeze appeared to be approaching at a steep angle as it came into the berth, which may have complicated navigation. The exact cause remains unconfirmed, though sea conditions, wind, currents, and wave swells can all influence how closely a ship approaches a dock. Carnival has not yet publicly commented on what led to the collision.

Carnival Breeze departed Cozumel on schedule at 5 p.m. and continued its 5-night Western Caribbean sailing from Galveston without changes to its itinerary. The ship was originally scheduled to visit Progreso, Mexico on Tuesday and return to Galveston on Thursday, September 3. No damage to the pier has been confirmed, and no other port schedules appear to have been affected.

Ship-to-dock collisions are uncommon but not unprecedented. Similar incidents have involved Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas in Jamaica in 2022, Norwegian Escape in Italy in 2020, and Carnival Magic in Jamaica in 2024, among others. After such impacts, ship engineers conduct thorough inspections of the hull to confirm structural integrity and safety. Passengers on Carnival Breeze should experience no disruption to their cruise experience, though the line typically investigates dock contact incidents to prevent recurrence.
