Almaco Completes Modernization on Liberty of the Seas

Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas completed a substantial overhaul in May 2026, adding 46 new cabins and refreshing multiple dining venues across the ship. The renovation touched nearly every deck, converting underused spaces like the library, gym areas, and conference rooms into passenger accommodations and new food concepts.

The catering upgrades include a redesigned galley, new Starbucks and juice bar locations, and a full conversion of the former Sabor restaurant into Izumi, a Japanese restaurant. Bar areas also received attention, with reimagined concepts on multiple decks. The work required close coordination between Royal Caribbean, shipyard contractor Damen, and supplier Almaco Group to manage structural changes, steel work, and interior installations simultaneously.

Deck-by-deck, the changes were extensive. The old conference area on Deck 2 became 24 standard cabins with reinforced flooring. Deck 10 saw the library converted into four cabins plus a new corridor. Deck 11 added eight larger cabins from former gym and spa space, while Deck 12 transformed part of the Adventure Ocean kids area into ten family suites. Each conversion involved structural modifications and careful sequencing to avoid conflicts with other contractors.

For passengers, these changes mean more cabin options across different price points and family configurations, plus improved dining variety. The additions reflect Royal Caribbean's strategy of refreshing older ships in its fleet rather than retiring them. Travelers already booked on Liberty should expect to see some new amenities and restaurants when they embark, though the core ship experience remains unchanged.
