Holland America Makes Multiple Changes to 35-Day Zaandam Voyage

Holland America Line is making last-minute changes to the Zaandam's 35-day Hawaii, Tahiti & Marquesas cruise departing San Diego on October 15, 2026. The ship has swapped the order of calls to Raiatea and Bora Bora in French Polynesia, now visiting Raiatea on November 3 and Bora Bora on November 4, reversing the original schedule. The line says this change means Zaandam will be the only large ship in port during both visits, reducing crowding and improving access to shore excursions and local transportation. Guests will also get an earlier departure from Bora Bora, allowing time to enjoy a sunset sailaway.

However, other adjustments are less welcome. Holland America confirmed the ship must operate at reduced speed during portions of the voyage and has canceled the call to Tabuaeran in Kiribati scheduled for October 29. The cruise line did not publicly explain the reasons for these changes, though the Zaandam experienced confirmed propulsion difficulties in June 2026. Passengers are also concerned about strong Pacific El Niño conditions and how weather or mechanical issues might further affect the itinerary.
