Viking Welcomes 13th Ocean Ship: Total Fleet Capacity Reaches 12,226 Passengers

Viking Cruises welcomes Viking Mira, its 13th ocean vessel, expanding total fleet capacity to 12,226 passengers while maintaining small-ship strategy.

Viking Cruises took delivery of its 13th ocean-going ship on May 26, 2026, when Fincantieri officially handed over Viking Mira in Ancona, Italy. The 54,300-ton vessel carries 998 passengers, bringing the cruise line's total ocean fleet capacity to 12,226 guests. Viking Mira represents the second ship in the newer Vela Class, featuring enhanced propulsion technology while maintaining the company's strategy of keeping ships under 1,000 passengers per vessel. This approach allows Viking to access smaller ports that larger mega-ships cannot navigate. The ship begins revenue operations June 5 with a 7-day Mediterranean sailing from Rome to Barcelona. Viking has additional deliveries scheduled through 2028, including Viking Libra, Viking Astrea, and Viking Lyra, as the cruise line continues its intentional focus on smaller, more intimate ships compared to the industry's trend toward larger vessels.
