Carnival Hit With Lawsuit After Passenger’s Feet Burned on Pool Deck

Florida guest files $5M lawsuit against Carnival Cruise Line after suffering second-degree burns from dangerously hot Lido Deck surfaces on Carnival Magic.

A Florida man is pursuing legal action against Carnival Cruise Line, claiming he suffered second-degree burns on his feet while walking barefoot across the Lido Deck of Carnival Magic in May 2025. Jorge Luis Alverio Nunez alleges the pool deck reached dangerously high temperatures, causing tissue damage within just twenty steps from the pool area. He filed suit in federal court seeking over $5 million in damages, citing negligence for failing to warn passengers of unsafe conditions and allowing hazardous deck temperatures to persist. Nunez reports ongoing mobility problems and hospital admission following the incident. The lawsuit highlights broader concerns about hot deck surfaces on Carnival vessels, with the plaintiff claiming other guests have experienced similar burns. Carnival's marine-grade flooring is designed to resist heat, though sun exposure can elevate temperatures significantly in tropical waters. The cruise line has occasionally posted warning signage during particularly hot days, though the plaintiff asserts such notices were inconsistent or absent during his voyage.
