The industry broadly breaks luxury cruising into three tiers:

Premium (Celebrity, Princess, Holland America): Significantly above mainstream in quality; not true luxury. Good value starting point.

Regent Seven Seas: Most Inclusive

Regent Seven Seas Cruises operates the most generous all-inclusive model in mainstream luxury cruising. Everything is included — shore excursions (unlimited, not just one per port), round-trip business-class airfare on many promotions, specialty restaurants, all spirits and wines, gratuities, and transfers.

The Seven Seas Grandeur (2023) is Regent's newest and most advanced ship, with 746 passengers on a ship that feels genuinely intimate despite its relatively modern scale. The Regent Suite aboard Seven Seas Explorer is reportedly the most expensive accommodation at sea when occupied — a 4,000-square-foot apartment with its own spa and butler.

Silversea: Most Intimate

Silversea's fleet ranges from the small Silver Origin (100 guests, Galápagos specialist) to the larger Silver Nova and Silver Ray (728 guests each, hybrid-powered). The line is now owned by Royal Caribbean Group but has retained its independent identity.

The S.A.L.T. (Sea And Land Taste) culinary program — local cuisine experiences, cooking demonstrations, destination-specific menus — has become one of Silversea's clearest differentiators. The expedition fleet (Silver Endeavour, Silver Cloud, Silver Wind in expedition mode) provides access to the Arctic, Antarctic, and Galápagos.

Best for: Guests who value culinary depth and destination authenticity alongside impeccable service.

Seabourn: Service and Expedition

Seabourn's classic fleet (Odyssey, Sojourn, Quest, Ovation, Encore) carries 450–600 guests with a service ratio that approaches 1:1 crew per guest. The Thomas Keller dining program has elevated the main restaurant to a standard rarely matched at sea.

The expedition ships Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit open polar and remote destinations with submarine dives, Zodiac landings, and resident marine biologists. For passengers who want both the luxury hotel experience and genuine adventure, this fleet is unique.

Crystal Cruises: Reborn

Crystal Cruises collapsed in 2022 and was acquired by A&K Travel Group, which relaunched it in 2023 with refurbished ships. Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity returned to service, maintaining the line's traditional emphasis on large-ship luxury (although still far smaller than mainstream vessels).

The relaunch has been well-received, though the line is still rebuilding its reputation. Crystal remains a strong option for those who want the classic Crystal experience with slightly larger ships than competitors.

Best for: Those who prefer larger cabin sizes and a traditional luxury atmosphere.

Viking Ocean: Best Value Per Dollar

Viking offers a convincing entry point to luxury-adjacent cruising.
